In Mexico, Audi plans to invest $1 billion in EV projects.

Installing the equipment required to produce an automobile with “e-tron,” or totally electric, equipment has already started at Audi Mexico.

MEXICO CITY Puebla, a state in Mexico, will receive a $1.08 billion investment from German automaker Audi for electric vehicle projects, the governor of Puebla announced on Tuesday. Audi affirmed the arrangements.

The Puebla administration released a statement stating that the investment will result in the creation of 500 new employment.

According to the announcement, Puebla Governor Sergio Salomon and Executive President Tarek Mashhour of Audi Mexico want to establish the state as an electric vehicle hub.

According to the release, Audi Mexico has already started setting up the facilities and machinery required to produce an automobile with “e-tron”—or totally electric—equipment.

“Audi México is a company that moves towards the future of the automotive industry,” the manufacturer stated in a succinct statement on June 12. As a result, it fits into the Audi Group’s electrification plan. The Puebla, Mexico, location of Audi is prepared to begin its electromobility project and to continue making significant contributions to e-tron technology.”

As per the business data, Audi, which is a part of the Volkswagen Group, employs 5,000 people at its single facility in Puebla town, Mexico.

Salomon stated via his X account, “Investors’ confidence in Mexico is strengthened, as there is certainty that our country is growing economically.”

His remarks were made just hours after the country’s incoming president, Claudia Sheinbaum, attempted to allay investor worries over a planned judicial overhaul by assuring that Mexico would uphold the rule of law while moving forward with reforms.

Despite difficulties this year, Audi CEO Gernot Doellner stated in March that the company was remaining committed to its all-electric business plan.
